The Carolina Tar Heels will take on the Towson Tigers in the first round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship at Dorrance Field on a date and time to be determined.
The Road to Advancement
If the Tar Heels defeat Towson, they will face the winner of the match between sixth-seeded Alabama and Western Carolina in the second round. If North Carolina advances, that game will also be played in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels tied the Red Tide in Tuscaloosa earlier this season.
Other teams in the University of North Carolina tournament include No. 1 seed Brigham Young University, No. 2 seed Texas Tech University and No. 4 seed Harvard University. If Carolina advances to the round of 16 and plays Texas Tech, the game will be played in LaBourque. WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary will again host the national semifinals and championship game this year.
ACC Teams
The Tar Heels are one of four ACC teams, the other three being No. 3 seed Notre Dame, No. 1 seed Clemson and No. 1 seed Florida State. Defending national champion UCLA is the No. 4 seed. For complete information on the tournament, click here.
Tar Heels Seek 23rd National Title
North Carolina is aiming to win the program's 23rd national title after finishing runner-up in 2022. The team has not won a title since 2012, the longest title drought in program history. During that time, the Tar Heels have reached the College Cup five times and the national championship game three times. This season, North Carolina enters the tournament with a 10-1-8 record, but has won just one of its last six matches.
